In search of the mountain of God - hiking trip

"Then Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and built an altar at the bottom of the mountain, and twelve painting stones according to the twelve tribes of Israel." Exactly what is described in the Bible in Exodus 24:4 can be seen with one's own eyes at the foot of Mount Karkom. The mountain is located in an Israeli restricted area in the Negev Desert. Visitors are only allowed to travel there three times a year, during the Jewish holidays of Passover, Sukkot and Hanukkah. Our seven-day desert trek is only possible during Hanukkah because of the hot summer climate. Mount Karkom is one of the most mysterious archaeological sites in Israel with thousands of rock engravings. It has always been considered a holy place to which people have made pilgrimages for thousands of years. Even a stone carving such as the Table of the Law with the Ten Commandments can be seen on the mountain. In the 1970s, Israeli archaeologist Prof. Emmanuel Anati documented petroglyphs and anthropomorphic rock sculptures on site. There are 1,300 archaeological sites around the mountain and about 44,000 ancient rock paintings, mostly on the mountain. The scientist concluded that Mount Karkom is the site of the biblical Mount Sinai. The desert hike for tourists to the holy mountain is a unique opportunity to get to know Israel in a new and completely different way after a long time, away from the usual tourist sites. It is a desert track for special people who want to experience something completely new, switch off, search for God and peace. The number of participants is limited, physical fitness is a prerequisite. Participants are accepted only after phone call.
